Getting started with essential oils can be a bit tricky, but in real, it’s all about proper dilution and following the instructions. If not used in a proper way, it can cause harm than good, as essential oils are highly concentrated and strong.

What you need to do?

Carefully read and follow all the instructions accordingly as mentioned on the label Always dilute your essential oils with carrier oils, for a safe and mild use Avoid applying on/near sensitive areas like eyes, inner ears, nose or any other sensitive part
Keep away from children. Not to be used on children under 10 years of age Identify your necessity for using the essential oil In case of any concern, always contact your medical practitioner
Do not use Plastic

Essential oils might burn the plastic, it’s advised to use glass or stainless steel container to mix your concoction

Patch test

If using essential oils for the first time, always do a patch test first on your inner arm. Wait for 24 hours, if there are no signs of irritation or redness or any side-effects, continue using the essential oils with instructions; if there is skin irritation or burning sensations, discontinue the usage.

What Do You Need To Do If Your Skin Reacts To Essential Oils?

In the case of essential oils, not diluting them with a designated carrier oil can cause skin irritation, redness, swelling, itching, burning or even blisters.

If any reaction persists on the skin:

- Stop using the essential oil immediately

- Remove contaminated clothing

- Gently wash the affected area with soap and water for atleast 10 minutes

- For best results, put some lukewarm oatmeal (run under warm water) in a muslin bag and gently pat on the affected area. Let that sit on the skin for about 10-15 minutes.

In case of Inhalation:

Inhaling the fragrance directly from the bottle for more than 20 minutes can cause headaches, burning of eyes and throat, nausea or shortness of breath.

- Take some fresh air

- If still uncomfortable, consult a doctor as soon as possible

For Allergic Reactions

Therapeutic essential oils are completely make up of automatic compounds found in nature,so they usually don't cause allergic reactions.However,allergic reaction can be trigged in terms of senstitivity which can cause responses in skin,respiratory system,digestive system and other areas of the body

In case of Eye Irritation:

-Keep washing your eyes as much as possible till the oil is washed away

-Try to keep your eyelids open while rinsing your eyes

-If wearing contact lenses, remove them after 3-5 minutes and then rinse the eyes

-It’s best to contact your medical practitioner if irritation still persists

In case of Ingestion:

Ingestion in most cases happen when children are left unsupervised, accidently.

- Store your essential oils out of reach of children

- Rush to hospital when ingested
